Our National Flag is the most enduring symbol of India and when hoisted at a gateway to the region, for many travelers it forms the first and abiding view of the spirit of the nation. As a citizen of the country and a public infrastructure service provider, we are proud and honored to have been able to make this monumental installation a part of our airport.

The National Flag has been hoisted in front of BIAL since December 14, when the new facilities were inaugurated and the airport renamed. As a responsible public entity our commitment is to the country that we serve. The flying of the National Flag is a demonstration of our patriotism and love for the country, and intended to communicate and instill this among the global travellers who use our facility.

National Flags are traditionally flown only between sunrise and sunset. However, there are exceptions that permit the Flag to also fly at night. This exception is applied only to massive National flags that are flown on monumental flagpoles (flagpoles which are 100 feet and above in height). This is because it takes only a minute to hoist a flag on regular flagpoles (flagpoles which are between 18 to 20 feet high) however, in the case of monumental flagpoles it takes much longer to hoist the flag, more importantly the flag runs the risk of being damaged while hoisting it twice a day. Hence, for this reason flags hoisted on any monumental flagpoles are not descended during sunset as long as it abides by the stated stipulations as defined by the laws of country.

The defined conditions under the Flag code and court rulings of India that allow the National flag to fly day and night are:

Adequate arrangements are made for proper illumination of Flags at night with backup in case of power failure
Immediate replacement of the Flag as soon as it gets damaged due to the vagaries of weather
As a responsible corporate BIAL abides by the laws, rules and statutes of the country. The flag is hoisted as per the regulation stated by the Government.
